K1, kb, pick up the stitch again and k1 – a tutorial

I wanted to look at the Yellow swatch today, I like the warmth on cold days.  I worked it according to this pattern, for CDI I used k1, kb, pick up the stitch and knit it again. For purl into fbf, I used p1, pb, pick up the stitch and purl it again.

Demonstration Swatch with k1, kb, pick up the stitch again and knit it, or p1, pb, pickup the stitch again and purl it in garter, 1/1 rib, stockinette and reverse stockinette ground. Front side.

I like how the increase is mostly closed, and how the knits stream out so evenly.  I also like the clean purl ridges in the garter field is so constant, the increases are totally obscured.

The reverse garter looks twisted and wonky, so does the back side of stockinette.  From this I take that I like the knit increase to be on the public side of whatever I’m making.  But the rib looks lovely on either side.
