The Herringbone Parallelogram Scarf and Herringbone Rectangular Scarf are my two most popular patterns. They have slightly quirky constructions with a knit/purl pattern written for fingering (sport, dk, worsted) weight yarns, and they are photographed on a Guest Guy.
I didn’t write this new scarf on that formula, but when I realized that the scarf I was noodling in my notebook did fit that formula, I felt excited!
The Herringbone Hexagonal Scarf begins with a center out square of Quaker Welt Stitch worked flat, or in the round. The Scarf is finished with Rib and Welt Diagonals worked on the bias along two of the square sides. If the initial square was worked flat, The slit is seamed during finishing.
6 (7, 6, 6.5) inches/ 15 (18, 15, 16.5) cm by 70 inches, 178 cm tip to tip.
27 (23, 21, 18) stitches of Rib and Welt Diagonals in 4inches / 10cm measured along the row, not on the bias. Wash and lay swatch flat to dry before checking gauge.
I’ve written the instructions for fingering(sport, dk, worsted) weight yarns, as if they were sizes, for ease of substitutions. The scarf takes 585 (490, 395, 430) yards, 535 (450, 365, 395) m of Fingering (Sport, DK, Worsted) yarn. Sample used part of 2 skeins of Brown Sheep Prairie Spun DK in Lost Lake 100% wool; 256 yds, 234 m per 100 g skein
