swatch showing inserted i-cord in multiple colors

I worked out how to use I-Cord horizontally because I couldn’t stand the thought of using an I-Cord bind-off then picking up stitches in a project.

First I wrote how to add an inserted I-Cord with all the same color in the bottom field, cord and top field. (All blue-green on the bottom of the photo)

Then how to add a second color in I-Cord and following field (the white) but I didn’t like how the first field (blue-green) showed through the ssk.

So my friend Lindsay of KnitEcoChic suggested doing the last row of the bottom field in the cord color (white back to blue -green field) and that worked wonderfully.

Finally, I worked the main field in one color, the cord in a second, and the following field in yet another. (Blue-green to navy to white, the top cord in the photo)

That project doesn’t scare me anymore.  And I’m wondering what other patterns can be inserted this way? Because while I don’t mind mattress stitch, I’m eager to work all in one piece and have my finished object LOOK like I mattress stitches it.

While I was inserting i-cord, I wondered about a cable, so I figured one out.
