{"id":2445,"date":"2016-10-28T00:10:33","date_gmt":"2016-10-28T00:10:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/?p=2445"},"modified":"2023-04-22T17:52:58","modified_gmt":"2023-04-22T17:52:58","slug":"motif-challenge-5-final-twist-owl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/motif-challenge-5-final-twist-owl\/","title":{"rendered":"Motif Challenge 5: Final Twist Owl"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"195\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignright size-large wp-image-2233\" src=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/129-195x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/129-195x300.jpg 195w, https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/129.jpg 203w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 195px) 100vw, 195px\" \/><br \/>\nI started a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/choosing-a-motif-source\/\">motif challenge <\/a>with pictorial motifs,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/motif-challenge-1-owl-in-twist-stitches\/\">chose an illustration<\/a>, made a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/motif-challenge-part-3-tweaking-the-first-draft-of-the-owl\/\"> rough draft<\/a> of it, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/motif-challenge-3-owl-version-2\/\">second draft<\/a>, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/motif-challenge-4-final-twist-owl\/\">third draft.<\/a>&nbsp; Then&nbsp;I let it set for a while as I worked on submission swatches. &nbsp;(Literally, it&#8217;s in a pile on my sewing desk with the swatches I haven&#8217;t photographed yet for the tubular bind off, some summer blouses that need mending, and my daughter&#8217;s needle felting fluff.)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2450 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/S6300072-e1477426215277.jpg\" alt=\"final twist stitch owl\" width=\"2112\" height=\"2816\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/S6300072-e1477426215277.jpg 2112w, https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/S6300072-e1477426215277-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/S6300072-e1477426215277-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2112px) 100vw, 2112px\" \/> For this version, I looked at the swatch itself for what I wanted to change, not comparing it with the sketch.&nbsp;These are the changes I made:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>switched the nose to an extended loop twist stitch<\/li>\n<li>smoothed the edge of the left wing to a curve,<\/li>\n<li>tried Vikkel Braids to edge the perch.<\/li>\n<li>simplified the claw.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The kids are urging me to do more with color, and what I saw at Rhinebeck is nudging me that that way too.
