I&#8217;d flip my double pointed needles over when working on an octagon, and there would be another star anise, an even prettier one.<\/p>\n<p>I love the name too,&nbsp;the shrub that grows star anise. &nbsp;As &nbsp;you read through the issue, you can find more spicy names and motifs &#8211; as well as gorgeous, interesting patterns.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2633\" src=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/smallerS6308009.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2816\" height=\"2112\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/smallerS6308009.jpg 2816w, https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/smallerS6308009-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/smallerS6308009-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/smallerS6308009-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2816px) 100vw, 2816px\" \/>When we weighted the afghan for shipping, it was just over 3 lbs. &nbsp;I watched all the Tutor Farm episodes while I worked on it, and several Backyardigans with K. &nbsp;I have a history of carpal tunnel syndrome, so I proceeded carefully. &nbsp;The editor actually phoned me to make sure we got a size for the photo shoot that would be big enough to look lovely wrapped around the model (and does it ever!) but not kill my hands. &nbsp;I set up a quota of knitting (a skein a day), and took Sundays off. &nbsp;I was also really good about going to the Y to swim and lift weights; and use good posture while knitting. &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yarn.com\/products\/classic-elite-yarns-liberty-wool?utm_source=twist&amp;utm_medium=yarn&amp;utm_campaign=winter16libertywool\">Liberty wool<\/a> is a light worsted, and on the smooth side, just right for avoiding trouble. &nbsp;I think getting my Celiac diagnosed (and never eating gluten on purpose) has really, really helped my wrists too, I haven&#8217;t worn my splints in 3 years.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2593\" src=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/smallerIMG_4854.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1944\" height=\"2592\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/smallerIMG_4854.jpg 1944w, https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/smallerIMG_4854-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/smallerIMG_4854-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1944px) 100vw, 1944px\" \/>Although I used a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lookatwhatimade.net\/crafts\/diy-blocking-station-crochet-squares\/\">blocking station,<\/a> I still had to touch up the corners with steam in the end. &nbsp;Probably because I pinned stacks of octagons, and basically eyeballed them&#8230;ahem.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2594\" src=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/smallerIMG_4855.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2592\" height=\"1944\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/smallerIMG_4855.jpg 2592w, https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/smallerIMG_4855-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/smallerIMG_4855-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/smallerIMG_4855-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2592px) 100vw, 2592px\" \/>We were hyper careful not to spill anything on it.
