And then it sat on my sewing desk all summer.&nbsp;&nbsp;And now it&#8217;s the GAL.&nbsp; Tell me I&#8217;m not the only one with trailing ambitions?<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s say you made a lot of motifs and either&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/introducing-a-bind-off-like-mary-thomas-picot-cast-on\">bound them off with picots<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/mary-thomass-picot-cast-on\/\">cast them on with picots<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/making-a-selvage-like-mary-thomas-picot-cast-on\/\">gave them picot selvages<\/a>, and you didn&#8217;t want to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/using-a-picot-bind-off-to-join-as-you-go-in-illicium-which-could-also-be-applied-to-sempervivum\/\"> join them up as you knit them,<\/a> or connect them <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/using-pictots-to-join-motifs\/\">with a crochet hook (or knitting needles) <\/a>as if they were hairpin lace, or use <a href=\"https:\/\/gannetdesigns.com\/2018\/05\/21\/experiment-conclusion-russian-grafting-for-joining-motifs\/\">Gannet&#8217;s Russian Grafting<\/a>, you could take all these motifs with their picot (aka eyelet) edgings, and join them up with the &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/lacy-join-as-you-go-jago-for-knitting\/\">lacy tape<\/a> between them, it&#8217;s like leading in a stained glass window.&nbsp; If your motifs are random stash busted pieces, the uniform tape can harmonize them.&nbsp; (I&#8217;m not promising miracles here &#8211; if you step back and hate a motif placement even with the breathing room of a contrasting tape, frog while you can!)<\/p>\n<p>If you love lots of color in a shawl or afghan, but hate holding more than one strand of yarn at a time&#8230; give this a shot.&nbsp; There are still a lot of ends to work in, and you will need to&nbsp;plan ways you can make a long connecting line of Lacy Tape without lots of annoying starts and stops.&nbsp; You may need to turn corners with more joins on one side than the other, I haven&#8217;t played with curving lines yet.<\/p>\n<h3>So, some review and for Lacy Tape, the second loop of the yo twice is dropped on the turn.<\/h3>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3323\" src=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Tape.png\" alt=\"Chart for tape lace for knitting which is like Bruges Crochet tape\" width=\"529\" height=\"644\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Tape.png 529w, https:\/\/www.christineguestdesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Tape-246x300.png 246w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 529px) 100vw, 529px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Cast on 5<\/p>\n<p>Row 1: Yo twice, k2tog, k3.<\/p>\n<p>Repeat row 1.<\/p>\n<h3>So, to use it in-between motifs is a little different:<\/h3>\n<p>Pick up the sts on one side of a motif on one needle, and the sts on the other motif on the other needle.&nbsp; &nbsp;Cast on 4 sts in between the picked up sts, k1 in the first picot loop of the motif you are joining.
