Anne Asked, “I am trying to figure out the cast-on. Two provincial stitches, 4 loop pickups, and 1 st does not equal 8. And why is the yarn dropped? It puts the yarn on opposite side of needle.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And I realized that I forgot completely to be needle agnostic.  I usually work edgings on double pointed needles, and thus had the empty pointed end to pick up the stitches with.  I’m sorry blog readers!<\/p>\n

I took some photos of the process, they are down below the chart.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cast on 2 sts provisionally.
\nWork Mary Thomas\u2019s Picot Edging<\/a> (This post has a photo tutorial. It can feel odd to start a row with a yarn over.)<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Row 1: Yo, sl1, k1, psso. (2 sts)<\/p>\n

Rep Row 1 until there are 4 picots (loops) along the sides of the braid, do not turn.  Drop yarn.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

If using double pointed needles, with the back point of the needle, pick up the 4 loops.<\/p>\n

If using another configuration of needle, turn, slip the two stitches onto the other needle, then pick up the 4 picot loops<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Pick up the provisionally cast on sts.  (8 sts)<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

To get to the working end of the yarn, slide it back to the other side of the double pointed needle, or slip the 8 stitches onto another needle.<\/p>\n
